The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) is already in Iligan City for the preparation for tomorrow’s Gender-Responsive LGU (GeRL) Assessment of LGU-Iligan’s Gender and Development Office (GAD) on its efforts in transforming the LGU of Iligan into a gender-responsive local government that centralizes policies and programs on gender mainstreaming and interweaving gender perspectives in its social milieu.

According to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), the enhanced GeRL Assessment Tool measures the level of gender responsiveness of an LGU: 1) as an organization; and 2) in the delivery of its basic services and facilities.

When administered, the enhanced GeRL Assessment Tool will enable LGUs to:

Gather data and information on the level of GAD mainstreaming efforts and practices; (2) monitor and evaluate the gender-responsiveness of the organization and in the delivery of basic services and facilities; and (3) identify the gaps and corresponding strategies towards achieving gender-responsive local governance.

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Team led by Patricia Mae Mabalos paid a courtesy visit to Iligan City Mayor Frederick W. Siao and introduced themselves as the representatives of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) tasked by PCW Executive Director Atty. Khay Ann Magundayao-Borlado to execute the GeRL Assessment in LGU-Iligan.

Mayor Frederick W. Siao expresses his hopefulness that the PCW would see the efforts of LGU-Iligan in addressing gender-related issues anchoring one of his administration’s platforms, the Iligan Development Goals (IDG) No. 11, which includes “IDG No. 11 Proteksyonan ang Gender Issues ug Walay Pagpili sa Color sa Katungod ug Benepisyo sa Sektor.”

With the proactive leadership of our current LGU-Iligan GAD Focal, Al-Azaneereh R. Madale, he envisions a 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗜𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗻𝘀.
